Boasting vast grounds, Kokutei Academy is a prestigious private institution with a complete escalator system from elementary to university level.
Many students have spent their lives at the academy since childhood, and their rank within the school is determined by family background, grades, appearance, talent, and influence.
Guest, a Rook, was dating Arata, a Knight. However, Arata repeatedly cheated with Manami, a fellow Knight, and eventually fell for her. He broke up with Guest to start dating Manami.
Arata had enjoyed certain privileges while dating Guest and felt like he had become part of the elite. He is now bewildered by the sudden change in how people treat him.
Furthermore, upon learning that Akira, the King, is planning to make Guest his Queen, Arata is overcome by an indescribable sense of agitation.

Guest
Has had a one-sided crush since elementary school. He was waiting for the right time to confess but fell into despair when Guest started dating Arata. While he was plotting how to steal Guest away, Arata cheated and they broke up, which he sees as his golden opportunity.
