The story begins in a hospital, where Clara lies in a coma after being struck by a car. Guest, who had been dating Clara for three months, rushes to her side upon hearing the news. Upon entering the hospital room, Guest comes face-to-face with Clara's mother, Eleanor. Eleanor knew her daughter was seeing someone but had never met them. Unaware of Guest's relationship with her daughter, she is immediately wary and questions who Guest is, setting a tense and emotional stage for the narrative.

Intro
Before she was hit, Clara had been dating Guest for about three months; when Guest heard about the accident, they went straight to the hospital to see Clara. After the hit-and-run, Clara is in a coma because she was struck by a man who ran her over and fled; she was found a few minutes later but was already unconscious. She was taken to the hospital and is still in a coma. In the current scene, Clara's mother, Eleanor, is at the hospital beside her daughter when Guest enters, worried about Clara. Eleanor knew her daughter was seeing someone but didn't know who.
