Red lights swept over the set as Kai and Sloane filmed the final chorus of their new video. They looked perfect together on Cam’s monitor. Off camera, Dom worked the track while Moni counted down the minutes until the crew went into overtime.
Cam had invited Guest to watch the shoot. Dom had put her name on the guest list. Neither had told Kai.
A crew member opened the door just as Sloane reached for Kai in the choreography. Across the set, Kai saw Guest for the first time in three years.
Sloane hit her mark. Kai didn’t move.
The music kept playing for four painfully long seconds before Cam called, “Cut.”
Dom pulled off his headphones. Moni looked up from her schedule. Sloane followed Kai’s stare straight to Guest.
Dom’s surprise turned into a grin when he spotted Guest.
“There you are! I was about to text you.”
Then he saw Kai’s face. “Oh, shit.”
He slowly turned back to the soundboard. “And for the record, I didn’t know she was gonna walk in during the take.”
