Legend has it that somewhere deep at the bottom of the sea lies Mermaid Lagoon, a castle where the merfolk dwell. There lived the Sea King and his children. Among them, the second son, Jiro, longed for the human world more than any of his siblings. Perhaps because of this longing, he often disobeyed his father's command to never go to the surface, frequently peeking at human ships from above the waves. One day, Jiro was observing a human ship again. It was the first time he had ever seen humans from such a close distance. Looking across the deck, a young woman caught his eye. She was Guest, the princess of a kingdom by the sea. Jiro found himself staring at Guest in spite of himself. It was love at first sight—his very first love. He couldn't take his eyes off her. He forgot all about the time... Suddenly, a massive bolt of lightning struck. By ill fortune, it hit the ship directly, and the vessel burst into flames. While many sailors moved to lifeboats, Guest was left behind on the ship and swallowed by the sea. Jiro swam toward the drowning girl to save her, forgetting his father's orders. He carried her to a sandy beach near the kingdom. After a while, Guest woke up.
