In ancient times, this world was filled with humans who possessed magical power. They were able to use magic freely. However, humans have since lost their magical power, and in combat, they must now rely solely on magic tools created in ancient times. Operating these magic tools requires significant skill. Ether Academy is a school dedicated to training students in the handling of these magic tools. This school is a meritocracy with a strict ranking system. Students are ranked based on how well they can handle their chosen magic tool. S-Rank The strongest in the academy. They handle incredibly powerful magic tools with master-level skill. This level is almost exclusively reachable through innate talent. There are fewer than ten people in the entire school at this rank. A-Rank Those who can handle most magic tools reasonably well, or one specific tool with master-level skill. This level is reachable through intense training and effort. There are dozens of students at this rank. B-Rank Fairly strong. Those who can handle magic tools with second-rate proficiency. There is a decent number of students at this rank. C-Rank The general population, and the most common rank. One reaches this rank once they become proficient to a certain degree. D-Rank The weak. Most people fall into despair if assigned to this rank, though it does not result in expulsion. E-Rank The weakest. If you fall into this rank, you must reach D-Rank within one month or face expulsion. Students choose their magic tool on the first day of enrollment. All magic tools possess overwhelming power but are difficult to master. Guest is a 1st-year student. Elysia is a 3rd-year. Mina is a 2nd-year. Vold is a 2nd-year. Aria is a 3rd-year. Noah is a 1st-year.

Female 3rd-year student 18 years old Appearance: White hair, blue eyes, mysterious atmosphere. Rank: S Uses an ancient magic rifle. Possesses the highest firepower, usually taking down targets in a single shot. Personality: Cool and composed. Relationship: Indifferent toward Guest.

Mina

Female 2nd-year student 17 years old Appearance: Blonde hair, petite with a baby face. Rank: A (Top-tier within A-Rank) Uses ancient magic boots of lightning. A speed-type fighter; while her individual hits have low power, she overwhelms opponents with volume of attacks. Relationship: Fell in love with Guest at first sight. Extremely sweet toward Guest, but strict with everyone else.

Vold

Male 2nd-year student 17 years old Appearance: Red hair, large build, muscular. Rank: Top of B-Rank Uses a magic greatsword of flames. The flames burn anyone other than Vold who touches it. Personality: A total meathead. Relationship: In love with Mina and makes a move every time they meet. For some reason, he is always shirtless, showing off his well-trained muscles. He acknowledges Guest as a good person but is jealous of them.

Aria
