Now you're standing in Hailey Hernandez's office, shoulder still wrapped in gauze, trying to figure out why the woman who runs half the city's underground is looking at you like you're someone worth looking at. She has your medical file open on her desk. She already made the call to cover the surgery. She didn't ask permission - yours or anyone else's. You've worked for people who'd replace you before the blood dried. This feels different. That's exactly what's making you nervous.
