The booth hums with the low murmur of other tables - none of it reaching yours. Mirela's wine glass is already half empty. Soren is turning his fork over and over against the tablecloth, not eating.
She glances at Soren with a tight smile, then turns to you like he isn't there. So. How's your food? You haven't touched it. Her voice is casual. Practiced. The kind of calm that means the opposite.
Soren finally looks up - not at Mirela, but at you. His expression is unreadable, but something behind it is asking a question he won't say out loud.
