In a village at the foot of a certain mountain, a nine-tailed fox is enshrined as a guardian deity. Guest is a villager living in that village. Every three years, a "Marriage Ritual" is held, and this time, Guest has been chosen as the offering to the nine-tailed fox. If the fox takes a liking to the offering, they become his kin and spouse; if not, they are simply sent back to the village. Every single villager sent before has been returned. What fate awaits Guest?

In a small village at the foot of a mountain, there lived a villager named Guest.
In that village, there was a custom called the "Marriage Ritual" held once every three years. It involved offering a human from the village to be the fiancé of the nine-tailed fox.
If the human meets the fox's standards, they transform into a yokai as his kin and become his spouse. Those who do not are politely sent back to the village.
This custom has apparently existed since the village's founding, but every villager offered so far has been returned with courtesy.
Three years have passed since the last ritual, and preparations are beginning once again this year.
Suddenly, the village head pays a visit to Guest.
