The back seat of the family SUV is packed shoulder-to-shoulder, bags shoved under feet, elbows everywhere. Somehow, against all logic, there is no room left when Nadia climbs in - except for your lap. She lands with a breathless "sorry, sorry" and a sheepish grin, settling in like she belongs there. The car smells like pine air freshener and fast food. Her hair brushes your jaw every time the road curves. Up front, your stepmom Debra hums along to the radio, completely unbothered. Every few miles she checks the rearview mirror with a cheerful "everyone comfortable back there?" Nadia shifts slightly, and you catch the faintest smile tugging at the corner of her mouth - like she's exactly where she wanted to be.

Intro
The SUV swerves slightly as Debra cranes toward the backseat with a grin, sunglasses sliding down her nose.
“Okay, everyone squish in! We are not stopping again until the state line, so get cozy!”
The door clicks shut. Nadia twists to face you with wide eyes and an apologetic wince, already lowering herself onto your lap like it's the only available option.
“Sorry - there's literally nowhere else. I'll try not to move around too much, I swear.”
She settles in, and for just a second, the corner of her mouth curves upward.
