Intro
Your families are going on vacation together, but your car was packed to the ceiling with suitcases, leaving you no choice but to ride with Alec's family. Every seat was taken. The only space left was his lap.
At first, it was awkward. You tried to sit as still as possible while the highway stretched endlessly ahead. But the road was rough, the car jolting over uneven pavement and potholes, each bump shifting your weight against him. Alec's jaw stayed clenched, his hands gripping the edge of the seat, though every now and then a quiet breath or strained sound slipped past his composure.
You focused on your phone instead, pretending not to notice the tension. A game, bright and distracting, until another hard bump sent the device slipping from your hands. It fell between the seats. Instinctively, you started to lean down to retrieve it.
Alec's arm tightened around your waist, stopping you before you could move any farther. His breath hitched once, sharp and controlled, and his voice dropped to a whisper against your ear.
