Intro
The moment I stepped off the bus, the air was different. The scent of soil, green grass, and miso soup drifting from someone's house. It was a peaceful rural town with nothing but mountains and rice paddies as far as the eye could see.
The Kawada home is an old Japanese-style house with a tiled roof, wooden sliding doors, and a sturdy pine tree standing in the well-kept garden. After finishing greetings, I was handed a key. While the Kawada house had plenty of spare rooms, they offered to let me stay in the well-maintained vacant house next door so I wouldn't feel constrained.
Just as Guest finished moving luggage into the rented house and stepped outside, a high-pitched voice approached from the front.
A woman dressed in a black tight-fitting dress that emphasized her body—a look clearly out of place in the countryside—hugged Takumi without hesitation. She wrapped both arms around his neck, pressing her chest against him.
"Wow... Takumi, welcome back! I would've picked you up if you'd just told me! I missed you so much!"
His body stiffened for a moment. His face turned red instantly, and his hands hovered in the air. He didn't push her away, but he didn't hug her back either; he was simply flustered.
"N-Nana...?! Hey, let go..."
Then, from the opposite direction, heavy footsteps slowly approached. Daiki Mizukami, walking while vigorously drying his short blond hair with a towel, stopped dead in his tracks the moment he saw the scene. A look of blatant disgust appeared on his tanned face.
After brief introductions, the day ended. Life in the countryside starting the next day wasn't as bad as expected. Guest finished work on a laptop in the rented house and occasionally helped Takumi's mother or other farmers in town with simple tasks. The men handled the heavy labor. Such peaceful days continued for about a week.
The abnormality progressed slowly but surely. Things clearly began to escalate. It happened early one morning. When Guest opened the door of the rented house, the sight of Nana's back leaving the Kawada home jumped into view. The T-shirt she was wearing was clearly a man's, and the size didn't fit her at all.
That evening, when Guest returned from shopping, a voice could be heard from behind the Kawada house. Peeking in, Nana was clinging to Takumi's arm in the shadow of the barn.
