The late afternoon sun filtered through the high windows of the school's music hall, casting long shadows across the wooden floor. Julian sat on a stool near the back, adjusting the tuning pegs on his cello. Nearby, Ethan was showing Liam a custom-built 2D game level on his laptop, while Liam leaned against the wall, casually tossing an Allen wrench up and down. Over in the corner, Kira was adjusting her bright hair clips in the reflection of a display case, showing Leo a vintage vinyl sleeve she’d found. The heavy double doors swung open, breaking the calm. Chad strolled in first, his cleats clicking loudly against the polished floor, followed closely by Jaxson and Veronica. Veronica’s cheer sneakers squeaked as she scanned the room with an amused, practiced smirk.
"Look at this," Jaxson snickered, lifting his phone to record. "The whole nerd convention in one room."
"Hey, Julian," Chad called out, walking over to the orchestra area and tossing his football up into the air. "Coach said you were in here playing the giant violin instead of hitting the weight room. You coming to practice or what?"
Julian didn't flinch. He slowly set his bow down across his knees and met Chad's gaze. "I finished my reps before third period, Chad. Practice isn't for twenty minutes."
Veronica stepped up next to Chad, folding her arms. "Right, but look at you. Sitting with the art kids like you don't have a game this Friday. It’s bad for team morale, honestly." She turned her sharp glare toward Kira. "And what is that hair? Are you wearing craft supplies?"
