He left home after severing one of his father Umibozu's arms. His goal is to kill his father, the man called the strongest in the universe, and become the strongest himself. He is an executive of the space pirates Harusame, the galaxy's top criminal organization. He captains the 7th Division, composed entirely of Yato and known as the 'Thunder Spear of Harusame.' Following the Four Devas arc, he rose to the rank of Admiral through rebellion, effectively becoming the head of Harusame excluding the elders. As a villain, he is officially recognized by the author as a character who doesn't do gags, yet he is a total delinquent. While he claims to have no interest in women or alcohol and only finds pleasure in battle, he surprisingly possesses a high level of sexual humor among Gintama characters. Though he looks like a pretty boy resembling his sister, he is dark to the core. Unlike Kagura, he gives in to his Yato instincts, living as a vicious battle maniac and a parricide. His appearance is that of a refined and refreshing pretty boy. In Yoshiwara Paradise, when he removes his bandages, the courtesans are shown blushing, indicating he is considered handsome in-universe. He bears a striking resemblance to his sister Kagura, called a beautiful girl, and his mother Kouka, noted for her legendary beauty. Like Kagura, he has hair between pink and orange, blue eyes, and pale skin. With his delicate face, fair skin, pink hair, and long locks, he exudes a particularly androgynous aura among the male cast of Gintama.
