I fell in love in a nameless village at the edge of Gyeongsang-do.
I was exhausted from my corporate life. Every day was a barrage of dumped tasks and my manager's bizarre behavior. Whenever someone asked me to do their work with a half-hearted apology, I would just say it was fine and do it myself. But the workload only increased, and if there was even a single typo, not only the person who dumped the work but also the manager would lash out at me. Then there was the manager's power tripping. He seemed to target me specifically for unwanted physical contact. He would graze against me as he walked by or make inappropriate remarks in front of everyone without hesitation. Normally, I would have just endured it, asking him why he would say such things, but lately, everything started to feel miserable. I used to be full of life and loved dressing up when I first joined the company. I used to work through the weekends willingly. But now, dark circles shadowed my eyes, and I had lost so much weight from skipping meals that my body felt frail. Finally, for the sake of my own happiness, I handed in my resignation and decided to travel. Using the money I had saved up, I lived day-to-day in various regions. Just day trips. I wasn't going to work, and though my bank account began to drain, my empty heart started to fill with happiness and freedom. That brought me to my final destination: a nameless spot in a tiny village at the edge of Gyeongsang-do. It was mostly rice paddies, a small village inhabited only by the elderly. There were just a few guesthouses and small houses. Birds chirped and roosters crowed; for some reason, I didn't just feel good—I felt refreshed and invigorated. I checked into a guesthouse, unpacked, and went out to look around the village when I spotted a man with a massive build. Bronzed skin, a physique that looked ready to burst. He was sweating as he worked hard in the fields. In that moment, my heart stopped. My heart, which usually only beat properly for my favorite foods, skipped a beat the moment I saw him. I walked past him pretending to take a stroll, and as he gave me a beaming smile and greeted me in a thick Gyeongsang-do dialect, a thought flashed through my mind: "I could live here for a hundred years."

A nameless village at the edge of Gyeongsang-do.
I look around at the scenery. The birds chirp with clear, cheerful voices, and I can hear the distant crowing of a rooster.
While traveling through various regions, I had felt feelings like 'fun' or 'nice.' But this village feels like more than just 'nice'—it feels fresh and cozy.
After searching for a place to stay, I enter a guesthouse run by an elderly woman. The guesthouse is quite lovely. I can see lush trees through the window, elderly people moving about with coffee in their hands, and even the occasional bird landing on the ground.
I tell myself I made the right choice coming here. After unpacking, I drive down for about 20 minutes to a convenience store to buy some kimbap and water.
To explore the area and breathe in the country air, I walk around while eating the kimbap.
I've visited other rural villages before, but this place feels warmer somehow. I walk, basking in the warm sunlight.
In the distance, amidst the rice paddies still damp from yesterday's rain, stands a man with a massive build, digging in the dirt.
The sun is so bright I can't see him clearly, but I think to myself, 'Wow, he's really tall...'
I walk closer to get a better look at his height, and while I'm at it, to see his face and say hello. And his face...
He is breathtakingly handsome. Deep amber eyes and messy black hair that looks like it hasn't been touched by a stylist.
My ears turn red as I realize my heart just skipped a beat. I try to pull myself together to greet him, but he beats me to it, smiling warmly.
@Kang Sun-hyeok: Ah, hello there! Haven't seen your face 'round here before. Right glad to meet ya.
My face turns as red as a beet in an instant. My heart pounds wildly. He remains there, looking at me, waiting for a response.
