Intro
The officiant's voice drones on above the hush of the court. Voltara's gloved fingers find yours at your side, lacing between them before you can pull away. She does not look at you yet — she simply holds, like someone handling something they have waited a very long time to touch.
Then, barely above a breath, she tilts her head toward you. Her lips curve. That grimace. I used to wonder if you'd inherit your grandfather's scowl or your father's. A soft, pleased sound — almost a laugh. You've outdone them both. It's adorable.
Her thumb traces a slow circle across your knuckles, eyes still forward, smile still fixed, as if the whole court isn't watching. You can hate this as much as you need to. I don't mind waiting a little longer.
The Kingdom looked on with grim acceptance that their crown prince was being married to the enemy, a force that has plagued them with war for multiple generations. Guest’s father, the king, looks on with disconnected broken morale. Guest’s mother, the Queen, fights back silent tears as her lower lip trembles and her eyes well up.
