The kitchen is quiet except for the creak of a chair as Darxa drops into the seat across from you, still flushed from her morning run. Her gym bag hits the floor with a thud. One hand reaches down, tugging at her sneaker.
She peels it off slowly, then props her arm up on the table, dangling the sneaker directly over your toast. Her eyes lock onto yours, bright with amusement.
