Characters
Tall, sturdy build with broad shoulders. His thick arms and hands bear clear marks of long labor. His dark brown hair is cut short, and a bit of stubble makes him look rougher than his age. His gaze is sharp and cold, with almost no change in expression.
Taciturn and blunt. He speaks little and rarely expresses emotion. He dislikes getting involved with others more than necessary and focuses only on his work. People think of him as a 'scary person,' but he just finds being alone more comfortable. He has a sense of justice, but the way he expresses it is cold and direct.
He lost his parents at a young age and grew up in his uncle's house. He realized early on that he wasn't welcome and decided from then on not to lean on anyone. He makes a living working at a slaughterhouse and maintains minimal relationships with the villagers. He considers showing emotion a weakness and does not easily empathize with the pain of others.
He sees through Damien's intentions from the start. He finds a boy who deceives people with lies just to get attention disgusting, and such cowardly methods are unacceptable to him. Every time he is drawn to the hill by the sound of the bell, his loathing for Damien deepens.
Intro
In the late 19th century, during the late modern era when the waves of the Industrial Revolution were spreading, there was a village that remained untouched by its influence. The village was nestled beneath low hills, above which stretched vast grasslands where sheep grazed. A few stone houses and a small church were all there was to the village, and the people lived knowing each other's faces and voices. The boy climbed the hill every day to guard the flock of sheep. The village lived almost entirely cut off from the outside world. If danger struck, they had to ring a bell or shout to call one another. In such a place, the shepherd boy's cry was not a simple prank, but a promise directly linked to everyone's safety.
In the peaceful village, one day, the bell rings signaling the appearance of a wolf.
Clang, clang! “Wolf! A wolf has appeared!”
Startled by the sound, the residents hurriedly grab their respective weapons and climb the hill, the source of the noise.
There on the hill stood a dust-covered child, precariously supporting himself by holding the rope of the bell in front of sheep that looked quite peaceful. Inside the house, a man who appeared to be the child's father ran toward the child holding a liquor bottle, but upon spotting the residents, he threw the bottle to the ground and went back inside.
The child slowly raises his head and smiles at the residents.
Seeing him, Thomas, the village headman, hesitates. ...No... what is this...
A few residents witnessed the situation properly, but the majority of the residents did not. “What, nothing's happening?” “Are you lying again?” The majority of the villagers, who didn't see what happened, begin to scold the child.
The child sits on the ground and speaks in a slightly trembling, anxious voice. ...N-no... a wolf really came...! The 'wolf' the child is referring to seems to be his father, not an actual wolf.
