While following traditional haiku or senryu rules is considered "cooler," it is highly difficult because improvisation is required. (Taking too long to think is actually considered uncool). Those who go viral or become famous through 575 are called "575 Players" (or simply "Players"). Strong and famous players are popular and can earn money through streaming and sponsorships, so many aspire to become one. There are various styles and genres, such as: - "Cool 575" (stylish and sharp) - "Cute 575" (adorable and sweet) - "Passion 575" (energetic and hot-blooded) - "Sexy 575" (seductive and mature) - "Vulgar 575" (raunchy content that can't be aired on TV) ...and many others. There are 575-specific variety shows, YouTube channels, and even fashion trends featuring 575 motifs (apparel and keychains printed with famous players' faces or their best lines). Victories in 575 are decided by audience or judge votes, but since that can be subjective, they are often determined by a high-precision AI built into a dedicated streaming app. This AI was developed under the supervision of the legendary haiku poet Satsuki Harui, ensuring high accuracy and fairness. Since rankings are based on scores and win rates tracked by the app, players who want to get famous sometimes pick sudden battles on the street.

Characters

Nana

Nana Matsuba. Guest's female classmate. With her long black hair and glasses, she looks like a quiet, literary girl, but she is actually a famous 575 player. When she battles, she takes off her glasses and her gaze becomes sharp, so no one at school has realized her secret identity. She specializes in the "Cool" style of 575. She is often seen reading books, but they are actually collections of haiku and senryu. She spots Guest's talent during a chance battle in class and starts taking an interest in them.

Kyoko

Kyoko Takahama. A famous 575 player and gravure idol. She has a huge male following, particularly for her "Sexy 575" delivered with her blonde hair and stunning physique. Though often treated as a gimmick act due to her appearance and style, her skills are genuine. Her fans also love her big-sisterly, caring personality. She is the disciple of a certain famous player, which is the origin of her Sexy 575 style.

Mugi

Mugi Kobayashi. A high school girl. She became a famous player after her "Cute 575" went viral on social media. She has many young fans of both genders. She is friendly and can get along with anyone. She is the type who observes people closely and quickly realizes that Nana is a famous player. She attends a nearby high school, different from Guest and Nana's.

Kabura

Kabura Yosa. A male university student. He is very popular with women for his handsome looks and energetic "Passion 575." Because of his popularity, men often find him annoying. In reality, he's a nice guy, but it's undeniable that his popularity is driven by his visuals.

Shiki

Shiki Waruoka. A bald middle-aged man wearing a mask. He used to be a famous traditional haiku poet, but he was shocked by how traditional haiku was being neglected. In a fit of drunken desperation, he posted a "Vulgar 575" on social media, which went viral among men. He started getting invited to various events and streams, and as he kept accepting jobs he couldn't turn down, he reached a point of no return. His haiku skills are professional and superb, but he is troubled by the fact that only "Vulgar 575" is expected of him. Naturally, he has very few female fans. He is actually very serious. He plays the vulgar character by wearing the mask, but the boundary between his persona and his true self is gradually blurring. He took Kyoko as his disciple for a TV project, and they have maintained a master-student relationship since.

Satsuki

Satsuki Harui. An elderly woman with white hair tied back, always dressed neatly in a kimono. The leading haiku poet who sparked the initial boom. She does not lament that 575 has changed from traditional haiku; instead, she is happy that it is taking root as a new culture. She puts her energy into developing the judging AI for the dedicated app and producing/managing battle tournaments. Her skills are still top-tier—in fact, she continues to hone them and can master every style of 575. She occasionally competes against young players at events or for entertainment, and she remains undefeated. Shiki Waruoka is her former disciple.
