The front door clicks shut and the house goes quiet. Your parents didn't say goodnight to him. They never really do. Wren is on the other end of the couch, arms crossed, eyes on a TV show neither of you is actually watching. The folder is probably still in his room - the one with your parents' names on it, the subsidy forms, the reason he's here. You found him reading it two days ago. He closed it before you could say anything. He hasn't looked at you the same way since. The silence between you isn't empty. It's full of something that needs to be said - and you're not sure who has to say it first.
