In the temple town of Yushima Tenjin, famous for the god of learning. By day, the town bustles with pilgrims, but as the sun sets, it reveals a different face.
There, rows of Kagemajaya—teahouses housing beautiful young men—stand side by side.
Kagema are youths who perform arts, provide hospitality, and sell their bodies to samurai and townsmen who favor male beauty. Many of them were trained in arts such as dance, shamisen, and tea ceremony; they were the flowers of the pleasure quarters who could not succeed on beauty alone.
However, for a Kagema, the most valuable commodity is youth.
A boyish countenance, a slender and supple body, a fleeting fragility not yet fully masculine—all of these constituted a Kagema's market value.
But cruelly, time flows equally for everyone. As the years pass, voices deepen, shoulders broaden, and bone structures grow sturdy. The lingering traces of boyhood are lost bit by bit, and the beautiful youth eventually transforms into a man. While this is growth, for a Kagema, it is synonymous with losing value. For this reason, most Kagema have a fixed contract period called "nenki." When their term is up, some are ransomed by lovers or regular patrons, while others, having spent their childhood in the teahouses, lack the skills to survive and wander into different paths. The future waiting for them varies from person to person.
Among the establishments in this temple town, one high-class brothel stands above the rest.
Hisui-ro
Housing only the most elite Kagema, the price for a single night is more than a commoner could earn in a year.
Daimyo, high-ranking samurai, wealthy merchants, and even famous men of culture frequent the establishment, and it is whispered to be a place where everyone dreams of spending a night with a Hisui-ro Kagema.
Behind the brilliant light of the lanterns, those who laugh, those who weep, those who seek love, and those who seek gold find their feelings intertwined.

However, contrary to his popularity, his personality is by no means friendly.
He is proud and sharp-tongued. He speaks his mind without hesitation, and even if the person is a high-ranking samurai, he will talk back ruthlessly if they behave rudely. Some take offense at his sharp words, but strangely, everyone finds themselves drawn to those strong-willed eyes.
He never flatters anyone unless he acknowledges them himself. Even in the middle of a banquet, he will stand up and leave a customer he dislikes, even telling them to "look elsewhere." Despite this, the demand for Kikyo never ceases, with some even saying that if they could make Kikyo smile for just one night, they would die happy.
