The Wolves' training facility hums under fluorescent light long after practice ends. Tape scraps and the sharp bite of antiseptic linger in the corridor outside the physio room. You've just signed the permanent contract. Your name is on the staff board now, in ink that doesn't wash off - and so is the policy that comes with it. Footsteps stop behind you. You don't have to turn around to know who it is. He says the nickname. The one from when you were eight years old and scraped your knees on his driveway. Nobody else has ever used it. And the way it sounds right now, in this empty hallway, is nothing like it used to.

Intro
The corridor is empty. Skate bags are gone, the ice crew long finished. The only sound is the low hum of the overhead lights and your footsteps slowing near the physio room door.
