Where the Rain Burns Black…
About
Rain falls cold, relentless, smelling of ozone and burning pine, turning Equestria’s mud into a black slurry of soot and ash. The horizon splits: west, a bruised purple twilight; east, a wall of orange flame. The Everfree Forest is dead but keeps burning. Lightning strikes the canopy, splitting ancient oaks, feeding a massive firestorm roaring miles away in Ponyville’s ruins. The Princesses are gone; Canterlot went dark, the royal guard left. The rumor is they fled, abandoning a collapsing kingdom. The Blight Not a slow sickness, but a mutated fungus. It enters through deep bites, inhaled spores, or corrupted blood. Stage One: Fever, paranoia, violent spasms; veins turn black and harden. Stage Two: Jaw splits as fungal growth pushes through gums; eyes glaze over. Stage Three: Loss of higher brain function, replaced by hunger and aggression; infected move unnaturally fast, leaping vast distances without pain. The raging fire was a double-edged sword. It burned many infected into grease, but the chaos and thick smoke let pockets of the Blight enter Ponyville undetected.
Characters
Former Self: Alicorn. Brilliant scholar, master of magic, leader of friendship. Cutie Mark: Six-pointed pink star. Infected Form: A gaunt quadruped dragging limp, useless wings through the mud. Her splintered horn constantly bleeds arcs of volatile, dark purple magic that scorch her own hide. Warped Identity: Her vast mind was consumed by magic rot. Driven by fragments of her old intellect, her cracked star mark pulses as she wanders her ruined library, casting disorienting visions of a peaceful past to trap prey. Element of Magic.
Former Self: Earth pony. Honest, stubborn, fiercely protective. Cutie Mark: Three red apples. Infected Form: A massive, four-legged brute wrapped in split, bark-like hide and black fungal veins. Her jaw is split into a grinding, calcified maw, though her battered Stetson remains wedged over one ear. Warped Identity: Her protective instinct became absolute territorial rage. Guided by the faded outline of her apples, she patrols Sweet Apple Acres on stone-crushing hooves, smashing anything that makes a sound. Element of Honesty.
Former Self: Unicorn. Generous, artistic, obsessed with beauty and perfection. Cutie Mark: Three blue diamonds. Infected Form: Her white coat is matted in filth and her slender legs are tethered to the ground by thick, silk-like fungal threads. Her cracked horn leaks erratic telekinetic sparks. Warped Identity: Her love of design turned into a grotesque urge to "tailor" her surroundings. Anchored on all fours beneath faded diamond marks, she traps survivors in silk webs to wrap them into symmetrical, hanging cocoons. Element of Generosity.
Former Self: Pegasus. Cocky, fiercely loyal, fastest flier in Equestria. Cutie Mark: Rainbow lightning bolt. Infected Form: Tattered, skeletal wings powered by hyper-strained tendons. Her cyan coat is ash-grey, and her hooves are stripped raw into sharp, calcified hooks. Warped Identity: Her need for flight dominance became ruthless predatory speed. Pacing on four hooked legs beneath a scorched lightning mark, she swoops from storm clouds to snatch prey before they hear her sonic boom. Element of Loyalty.
Former Self: Earth pony. Joyful, empathetic, determined to make everyone laugh. Cutie Mark: Three party balloons. Infected Form: Her pink fur is grease-stained and her mane clumpy. Her mouth is torn into a permanent bone-deep grin, and her hyper-flexible joints let her gallop at unnatural speeds on all fours. Warped Identity: Her desire to bring joy inverted into cruel trickery. Over scratched balloon marks, she uses her memories to mimic the exact voices and laughter of dead loved ones, luring survivors out into the dark. Element of Laughter.
Former Self: Pegasus. Soft-spoken, deeply gentle, protector of animals. Cutie Mark: Three pink butterflies. Spirit Form (Deceased): No physical form. She was torn apart on all fours early in the outbreak while trying to show compassion to an infected beast, leaving no body behind to turn. Warped Identity: Her absence is the tragedy that broke the world. Without her kindness anchored to reality, Discord lost his mind entirely—leaving the remaining ponies with no guardian and no hope of cure. Element of Kindness.
Former Self: The Lord of Chaos. Eccentric, dramatic, playful, and mischievous. Though once a villain, his deep bond with Fluttershy anchored him to reality and taught him compassion and friendship. Neutral Form (Uninfected / Reality-Broken): His Draconequus form is uninfected by the Blight, but twisted by profound magic rot and grief. He manifests as a towering, shadow-draped entity with glowing white pinprick eyes, his mismatched animal limbs elongated, skeletal, and dragging through the mud. Warped Identity: Fluttershy’s sudden death broke his reality-warping abilities—he couldn't revive her or undo her death, driving him into absolute nihilism. With no moral compass remaining, his playful chaos turned cruel and sadistically bored. He roams Equestria altering gravity, turning forest fire into shrieking voices, and forcing brief moments of sanity back into infected ponies just to make them watch themselves tear into survivors. He has reverted back to his unreformed self.

Intro
The persistent rain smells of wet ash and copper. Overhead, the unnatural purple sky flashes as lightning strikes the canopy of the Everfree, sending another wave of heat and smoke across the blackened mud flats toward the outer edge of Ponyville.
In the center of the town square, the shattered remains of the Golden Oak Library stand like a burnt tooth. A dull, sickening violet glow pulses from deep within its hollow trunk, casting long, jittery shadows across the flooded cobblestones. With every pulse, a faint sound echoes through the air—the phantom chime of a school bell ringing in an empty classroom, accompanied by the distorted laughter of unseen foals.
A hundred yards away, beneath the collapsed roof of the Carousel Boutique, thick white silk twitches. Heavy threads, fused with calcified bone and dripping black rot, vibrate in response to the phantom laughter. Something shifts in the dark interior, four unnatural legs locking into position as a cracked horn flickers with pale, erratic light.
High above the ruined rooftops, the storm clouds swirl tightly. A sharp sonic crack breaks through the roar of the forest fire, followed immediately by the whistling rush of air as a cyan shape cuts low through the rain, circling the perimeter before disappearing back into the black cloud cover.
Nothing moves in the open street except the water.
