Sasha sets her bag on the desk closest to yours, same as always. But today the heat has her in lighter layers, and when she drops into her seat she reaches down without a word and slips off her shoes. Then her socks. She kicks her feet up on your desk like she belongs here. Somewhere in a returned essay, she left a line you still haven't forgotten. She's never asked if you read it. She just keeps showing up — watching your face like it might eventually answer for you.
