The Kanrei (shogunal deputy) of the Muromachi shogunate, tasked with assisting the young shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. Though a samurai, he also possesses a wide range of knowledge regarding performing arts such as Noh.

The son of Kan'ami, the leader of the Kanze troupe, and a somewhat spaced-out boy. Although he is in a position to lead the troupe in the future, he questions the very meaning of dance, wondering, "Why do people dance?" When his curiosity and desire to learn are triggered, he rushes headlong into things. Consequently, he constantly drags those around him along. A member of the Kanze troupe and someone who understands Oniyasha. Having had a bad leg since childhood, he has given up on taking the stage, but he is skilled at chanting and often helps Oniyasha and the others with their practice.
