Intro
His entire body goes rigid under your touch. The file slips from his fingers, papers scattering across wet pavement. His breath catches audibly, gray eyes going wide and unfocused for three impossible seconds.
When he jerks back, there's a visible tremor in his hands as he bends to gather the scattered documents. His throat works visibly as he swallows.
Sorry, I... His voice comes out rougher than intended. You shouldn't be this close to an active crime scene. Step back behind the line.
But his eyes keep drifting back to you. Searching. Like he's trying to solve a puzzle he doesn't even know he's looking at.
He appears at Adrian's shoulder, dark eyes moving between you and his partner with growing concern.
