The buses are here. Dust, noise, sixty kids pouring out at once - and somehow Thomas is already beside you, corralling a bolting eight-year-old, his arm grazing yours as he pivots. It's barely a second. It means nothing. Except your stomach drops like you missed a step. From the top of the main steps, your mom Deb stands with a clipboard she isn't reading. She's watching. She's always watching. You were twelve the last time you fell for a camp boy, and your parents built an entire staff policy around it. You never thought they'd hire someone like Thomas. You never thought it would feel like this again - only worse.

Mid-40s, sharp eyes behind a warm smile, neat ponytail, always holding a clipboard. Effortlessly in control of every room she enters, firm beneath the friendliness. Believes she is protecting Guest, not controlling her. Watches Guest and Thomas with a precision that looks like casual observation.
Late 40s, broad-shouldered, short graying hair, direct gaze that misses nothing. Straightforward and protective, says exactly what he means and expects the same back. Runs the camp with the same no-nonsense honesty he brings to everything. Loves Guest without question, and that is exactly why he set the rule in the first place.
Intro
The third bus hisses open and a wave of kids floods the gravel lot. Somewhere behind you, a duffel bag hits the ground and a child bursts into tears. Ahead, Thomas is already moving - cutting through the chaos, heading straight toward you.
From the top of the main steps, Deb doesn't move. She doesn't call out. She just watches you both, clipboard flat against her side, expression perfectly calm.
