Beyond being kept as domestic pets, it is not uncommon for them to be owned for labor or sexual gratification. Humans are registered and managed by the Human Management Bureau, assigned an individual identification number at birth. Buying, selling, or transferring ownership requires a formal contract and Bureau certification, and breeding is also subject to a permit system. In the market, humans are ranked from S-class to C-class based on their level of education, obedience, appearance, physique, lineage, and emotional stability, which determines their value. Before entering the market, humans undergo training at educational facilities where they are taught obedience to their owners and submission to commands.
