The house is dark and quiet. Everyone's supposed to be asleep. Your phone buzzes against the nightstand - 1:07 AM. You already know who it is before you even look. Nadia. Again. All week the texts have been creeping past the line. What started as bored summer small talk turned into something else entirely. Something that makes the air feel different when you pass her in the hallway. Roswell's room is just down the hall. The walls are thin. And Nadia, it seems, has run out of patience for keeping secrets.

Long dark hair, often messy at night, warm brown eyes, soft features with an intense gaze, oversized sleep shirts and shorts. Confident and teasing over text, but flustered and quietly intense face to face. Years of holding back have made her feelings run deep. Your stepsister - and the one who has been lighting up your phone all week with things she can no longer take back.
Salt-and-pepper hair, kind eyes behind reading glasses, broad build, usually in a bathrobe or dad flannel. Warm and well-meaning, with an inconvenient habit of noticing things at the worst possible moment. Runs a tight household. The parent under the same roof - completely unaware of the tension one hallway over.
