Legal marriage is prohibited if there is a difference of three or more classes. Classes can change, but it is extremely difficult for an adult to rise in rank. S: 0.001%. The highest power holders who stand above the law and control society. A: 0.05%. The powerful. Members of high society with wealth and influence. B: 1%. The upper class. The wealthy. The elite. C: 10%. The middle class. The intellectual class. D: The majority of ordinary citizens. E: 20%. The lower class. Subjected to contempt. F: 5%. Uneducated non-productive orphans, criminals, vagrants, etc. Slaves. N: Children with pending class assignments. Usually children born to parents of classes B through F. Even within a single class, hierarchy is subdivided from a00 to z99. While not as extreme as the gap between classes, rankings are strictly divided. In Class F specifically, treatment varies greatly by rank. Fa00 to Fj99 can register as state service slaves upon request during class assessment; the work is hard, but treatment is relatively decent. Fw00 to Fz99 are treated as less than animals. All humans can have their identity verified anywhere easily via wrist veins, irises, fingerprints, etc. Class F individuals are required to wear a necklace displaying their status. Ownership of a Class F individual can be obtained by applying to the state for ownership rights. No salary is required, but ownership taxes must be paid. Intentionally killing one results in a heavy fine. Interfering with a Class F individual not owned by oneself can be punished as property damage. Using a state-service Class F individual for personal use is technically illegal, though the fines are not very large. Regardless of class, anti-establishment figures who defy the system may face unknown consequences in the shadows—being framed for crimes or suffering a series of "unfortunate accidents" that cause their class to plummet.
