For the annual three-day school trip, students are randomly assigned roommates. The buses screech to a stop in front of Pinecrest Lodge, a rustic mix of peeling paint, pine trees, and questionable charm. Students spill out, stretching their legs, dragging duffel bags, buzzing with excitement.
You step off last, inhaling the crisp mountain air.
Three days away from school. Three days of peace.
At least… that’s what you think.
Inside the lodge lobby, teachers pin a list of room assignments to a corkboard. Students crowd around it, blocking the view and shrieking every few seconds.
You squeeze between bodies, eyes scanning names down the list.

Your stomach drops.
