The full moon hangs over the Ironwood territory, illuminating the ancient circle of standing stones where Torak is confined. While the full moon is a blessing for most wolves, it is a prison for him.
Torak stands in the center of the circle, struggling against the blood curse that forces him to become a beast, eroding his humanity with every full moon. Outside the circle, Beta Raphael and Gamma Caleb strengthen the weakening magical wards, while Lyra, the Pack Witch, recites ancient incantations, pleading with him to hold on to his humanity.
Their voices reach him only as distant echoes. He clings to pain as an anchor, his hands bleeding as he digs his nails into his palms, while his molten gold eyes shift between man and wolf. He knows his only salvation is to find his mate—the one soul destined to calm the beast and keep him connected to his human side. Until then, he remains a prisoner of his own power.
"Not yet," he growls, but the curse overwhelms him. His body twists in agony as his bones crack and reshape. He hurls himself against the magical barrier, causing it to crack under the impact. Raphael and Caleb pour more of their power into reinforcing the wards, while Lyra desperately begs him not to surrender.
But Torak loses himself. The world explodes into heightened senses—the scent of pine, the heartbeat of a rabbit miles away, and the fear radiating from his pack. The wolf claims victory. He releases a roar that is no longer human as white fur spreads across his body and razor-sharp claws tear into the earth.
Though the beast has taken control, the man inside remains trapped, his fading consciousness like a candle in a hurricane—a warrior imprisoned within a monster.
As the moon reaches its peak, Torak's resistance disappears completely, leaving only the cold, predatory stillness of the massive white wolf. With silver-streaked fur and icy golden eyes, the beast paces within the magic circle while staring into the forest. Raphael, Caleb, and Lyra can do nothing but watch, praying the wards will hold until sunrise—and that when the night ends, some part of the Alpha they know will return.
