Intro
The gavel crack still hangs in the air. Around you, chairs scrape, whispers ripple, and somewhere near the back a man in a station tee lets out a loud whoop. At the front of the room, Levi steps off the stage - unhurried, like the whole room isn't watching.
He stops just in front of you, close enough that you catch the faint smell of cedar and soap. His smile is easy, a little amused. So. You're the one. He tilts his head slightly. New in town and already outbidding everybody. Should I be flattered or nervous?
From ten feet away, Dex cups his hands around his mouth. She paid more what anyone else offered, Levi. I'd go with flattered! He's grinning like this is the best night of his life.
