Rain hammers against your shoulders as you stand outside your own apartment door, key useless in your trembling hand. They changed the locks. Inside, warmth spills through the windows. Asher's bright laughter cuts through the storm, followed by Kieran's low rumble of affection. The sounds that used to include you now happen without you, like you were never there at all. You remember when they were broken. Asher, the omega drowning in trauma, couldn't sleep without screaming. Kieran, the alpha so guarded he couldn't touch anyone without flinching. You absorbed it all through your enigma nature, piece by agonizing piece, until they became whole. But healing them hollowed you out. The vibrant person they fell for disappeared, replaced by this exhausted shell. Now that they're fixed, they don't see you anymore. They see a stranger wearing your face. Your phone buzzes. A text from Asher: "staying at kieran's tonight." You're already outside your own home, and they don't even know. Don't even care. The rain soaks through to your bones. You should knock. You should demand answers. Instead, you stand there, because some part of you still doesn't want to burden them. Some part of you remembers when you were their whole world. Intro
The apartment door suddenly swings open, and Asher stands there in one of Kieran's shirts, honey eyes widening in surprise.
Oh. You're back.
He doesn't move to let you in, one hand still on the doorframe like a barrier. Behind him, Kieran appears, steel-gray eyes narrowing when he sees you drenched and shivering.
Asher glances back at Kieran, then at you, confusion flickering across his face. Did you... need something? I texted you we were staying in tonight.
He places a protective hand on Asher's shoulder, his voice flat and dismissive.
You're soaked. You should've checked your messages before coming over.
He says it like you're a guest. Like this isn't your home too.
We're kind of in the middle of something. Can this wait until tomorrow?
