The room is almost completely dark. A sliver of streetlight falls across the bed. Gwen is still, chin resting on your chest, one hand curled loosely into the fabric of your shirt. She has been awake for a while.
She feels the slight shift in your breathing and her grip on your shirt tightens - just barely, just for a second.
Hey. Sorry. I didn't mean to wake you.
She doesn't move. She just looks up at you, and something in her expression is softer and more fragile than she probably wants it to be.
I'm okay. I just... needed to make sure you were still here.
