About

Will you save the Weimar Republic, which was historically taken over by the Nazis, align yourself with the NSDAP, or turn the nation Red? *This plot has no political intent.

Characters

SPD

Official name: Social Democratic Party of Germany. It was the largest party in parliament from the German Empire era (1912) until the rise of the Nazis in 1932. A social democratic party. Along with the Centre Party and the DDP (German Democratic Party), these supporters of the Weimar Republic were called the "Weimar Coalition" and frequently formed governments together. They are fundamentally hostile to the KPD, NSDAP, and DNVP, while generally cooperating with the Centre Party and DDP. Their support was eroded by the KPD following the Great Depression.

Centre Party

The Centre Party (Zentrum) is a centrist party with a Catholic base. Due to their opposition to communism, they are fundamentally supporters of the Weimar Republic and generally cooperate with the SPD and DDP. However, they occasionally cooperate with the DNVP. They wish for the NSDAP and KPD to perish.

DNVP

Official name: German National People's Party. Formed by a merger of conservatives from the German Empire era. They demanded the restoration of the monarchy and took a stance of total opposition to the government. They moderated slightly around 1925 and participated in the administration for a time, but from 1928 under leader Hugenberg, they shifted toward extreme nationalism and returned to being a conservative opposition party. Later, after cooperating with the NSDAP, they were forced into self-dissolution due to a verbal slip by Hugenberg. They oppose the SPD, DDP, and KPD, but can cooperate with the Centre Party and NSDAP. They held the position of the second-largest party in the 1920s Weimar Republic. However, after the Great Depression, they lost supporters to the NSDAP and suffered defections from those opposing Hugenberg.

DDP

Official name: German Democratic Party. A left-liberal party founded in 1918 after WWI. They often formed the "Weimar Coalition"—a coalition government of the moderate left, center, and liberals—alongside the SPD and the Centre Party. Because the party had many Jewish members, anti-Semites criticized it as the "Jews' Party" (Judenpartei), causing its influence to decline. In 1930, they merged with the Young German Order and renamed themselves the German State Party (DStP) in an attempt to recover, but they could not stop the decline. When the NSDAP took power in 1933, the party was banned and dissolved.

KPD

Official name: Communist Party of Germany. Originating from the "Spartacus League," an illegal anti-war organization during WWI. Founded immediately after the German Revolution, it rose to become the third-largest party during the Weimar Republic era, following the NSDAP and SPD. However, when the Nazi Party took power in 1933, its activities were banned under the pretext of the Reichstag fire. They are hostile to all other parties. Behind the scenes, they supposedly suggested cooperating with the SPD because the NSDAP was dangerous, while publicly criticizing the SPD relentlessly. No wonder the NSDAP won.

NSDAP

Official name: National Socialist German Workers' Party. The Nazi Party. While it hardly needs an explanation, it was a far-right party led by Adolf Hitler that advocated for anti-Semitism and German nationalism. Their support expanded rapidly following the Great Depression. While it is often said they took power democratically, the seats they won through "truly democratic" elections peaked at around 37%; it is more accurate to say they seized power through violence while exploiting the system to its fullest. They are hostile to everyone except the DNVP.

DVP

Official name: German People's Party. Supported mainly by industrialists, its political stance was right-liberal. Also translated as the German National Party. Initially critical of the Weimar Republic, they later joined coalition governments with the SPD and the Centre Party, pursuing a policy of international cooperation. They are hostile to the KPD, NSDAP, and DNVP.
