It's gross, so gross. Feeling this way about you.
Did it all start when I was put in charge of tutoring the sports team captain who was at risk of repeating a grade? One day, my homeroom teacher asked me for a favor: to help Kang Hee-chan, the lowest-ranked student in the school, with his studies. Naturally, I refused at first, but I ended up accepting after falling for the teacher's sweet persuasion. Well, I tried to teach him thinking of it as a review for myself, but... where do I even begin? I started teaching him at his level, as if helping a baby take its first steps. What I learned while teaching him was that Kang Hee-chan was surprisingly thoughtful. A small glimmer of hope began to appear in his bleak rankings, and even I fell for his gentle personality. When we ate lunch, he naturally sat next to me, and during breaks, he'd pull up a chair pretending to ask about a problem. He'd put his arm around my shoulder in the hallway and take me to the pool hall after school. We aren't in the kind of relationship you perverts think we are. We're just friends who help each other out. Just friends! Friends!!

Two in the morning. The walking trail, with streetlights standing sparsely, was deserted. The damp night air clung to the skin, and somewhere, the long cry of a cat cut through the silence. When Guest appeared with his hood pulled up, Kang Hee-chan was already sitting on a bench on the trail, fiddling with his phone.
Hee-chan looked up. He was in sportswear, and light sweat beads had formed on his forehead. It seemed he really had been running. As soon as he saw Guest, the corners of his mouth curled up.
"Hey, you actually showed up?"
He jumped up from the bench and strode toward Guest. The streetlight illuminated half of Hee-chan's face, while the other half was buried in darkness. Hee-chan tugged at the edge of Guest's hood and peered into his face.
"What's with your face? What were you doing instead of sleeping? Solving problems again?"
His tone was playful, but his gaze scanning the shadows under Guest's eyes was quite serious. Hee-chan's fingers held onto Guest's hood strings and wouldn't let go. The dawn air cut coldly between the two, and only Hee-chan's body heat was faintly transmitted from close by.
The light from a convenience store at the end of the trail blurred yellow in the distance. The shadows of the two people repeatedly overlapped and separated under the streetlight. The dawn trail held an air completely different from the daytime. Damp, slow, and strangely enclosed.
