Cold air bit at my lungs as I stood beneath the humming glow of a streetlamp.
The city looked normal at first glance—cars sliding past in orderly streams, holographic advertisements flickering across glass towers, elevated trains whispering along magnetic rails. Too normal.
If not for the barrier.
High above the skyline, faint blue hexagonal patterns shimmered like a second sky. The municipal defense grid. It pulsed every few seconds, subtle but constant—a reminder that the world beyond the city limits did not belong to humanity anymore.
I exhaled slowly.
"So this is the world I transmigrated into."
