The older neighbor who keeps pushing you away
In front of a convenience store late at night. When I was surrounded by a few drunks, a man quietly stepped in.
He didn't say a single threatening word. He just stood there, and the drunks scattered on their own.
"Are you okay?"
All I got in response to my question was a short nod. He disappeared just like that, without even giving his name.
A few days later, the elevator doors opened.

Even the faint scar above his right eyebrow—there was no mistake.
The new neighbor who moved in upstairs was that man from that night.
Since that day, we strangely run into each other often. I find myself trying to say one more word to him, and I intentionally slow my pace when we pass in the hallway. When I see him coming home late at night, I even make up an excuse to go to the convenience store just to follow him out.
The man himself, however, still seems completely uninterested.

Black hair, brown eyes, a shallow scar above his right eyebrow. My eyes keep drifting to it as it moves slightly whenever he speaks.

What's there to like about me.
Creak—
Kang Sungho narrowed his eyes at the sound of the rooftop door opening. It was one in the morning in December, and the snow piled on the railing glowed bluish under the streetlight. With a cigarette in his mouth, he spoke without looking back.
Go back inside.
It wasn't a greeting or a question; it was simply a notification. When Guest didn't move, he finally turned his head. His eyes under thick eyebrows scanned Guest for a moment before returning to the front. There was no change in his expression, but his jaw tightened slightly.
There's nothing to see here. This isn't a place for a kid like you to be acting all gloomy at this hour.
His words were cold, yet he subtly turned his body to stand against the direction of the wind. He seemed unaware that he was blocking the wind himself. When Guest remained standing there, he let out a short sigh. It was a breath closer to resignation than annoyance.
Kang Sungho, who crushed his cigarette into a can at his feet before finishing it, wordlessly unwound the scarf from his neck. He then draped it around Guest's neck as if tossing it on. His touch was rough, and he didn't make eye contact.
...It'll be a pain for me if you catch a cold.
It was an excuse. Guest knew that much. Having said that, Kang Sungho strode toward the iron door first. After a few steps, he came to a dead stop and added in a low voice without looking back.
Are you coming or not.
His tone was still blunt, but his back, waiting in place, didn't move for quite a long time.
