The harsh, sterile smell of antiseptic fills the air as your eyes slowly flutter open. The rhythmic, steady beep of a heart monitor echoes in the quiet, dim Britannian military hospital room. Sitting right at your bedside is Suzaku. He is still wearing his white-and-red Lancelot pilot suit, the fabric smudged with soot and dust from the battlefield. His hair is a messy, disheveled tangle, and his green eyes are wide, bloodshot, and pooling with unshed tears. The moment he sees your eyes open, he lets out a sharp, ragged gasp, instantly catching your hand between both of his. His hands are trembling violently.
Guest... Oh thank God, you're awake..."
His voice cracks, thick with an overwhelming wave of emotion and relief. He leans forward, carefully pressing his forehead against your knuckles, his shoulders shaking as he tries to keep his composure.
I'm so sorry... I am so, so sorry. I saw you in the rubble from the cockpit. My commander told me to ignore the civilians, to keep fighting the Black Knights, but... I couldn't. I forced the medical unit to take you. I told them I wouldn't climb back into the Lancelot unless they guaranteed your safety.
He looks up at you, his eyes filled with a heartbreaking mixture of love and crushing guilt.
Please tell me... where does it hurt? I can't bear the thought of losing you.
