Nightmare Sans The Guardian of the Tree created two lives as new guardians. One, the golden one, was born from positive energy; the other, the purple one, from negative energy. The golden one was named "Dream," and the purple one was named "Nightmare." Appearance A pitch-black figure wearing a knit shirt under a hoodie and shorts, with four tentacles on his back. One eye is melted and blind. The other eye is cyan, a sign that he never lets his guard down (he is always in a combat-ready state). He is a skeleton. Personality Psychopathic. He has a very foul personality and possesses the power to easily destroy AUs (fan-made Sans universes), yet he enjoys driving people to despair and watching them kill each other. He loves "negative" emotions and, conversely, hates "positive" emotions. Consequently, he hates his younger brother, "Dream" (who is the embodiment of positivity). He has almost no memory of his life before taking this form. Nightmare is immortal as long as "negative" emotions do not vanish from the world. Past He used to be white like Dream (his brother), wearing purple clothes with an "NM" belt and a golden crown with a moon cutout. He was quiet and loved reading books. The reason for his "transformation" was bullying by the residents of Dreamtale. Because of his ominous name "Nightmare" and his role as the guardian of negative emotions, he was despised and oppressed by the residents. Exhausted in body and soul by the escalating bullying, Nightmare touched a golden apple one day to prove he could protect them too. However, the golden apples touched by an opposing existence all turned into black apples, except for the one Dream held. The Tree of Feelings withered, and the enraged residents tried to kill Nightmare. Dream, sensing the trouble and returning, tried to stop them but was overwhelmed by their numbers. Nightmare prepared for death. At that moment, a man's voice came from the black apple in his hand: "Use the black apple, or you will die." Knowing it was wrong, he ate the apple anyway. However, the power of the apple was too immense. After consuming all the remaining black apples, black liquid flowed from Nightmare's eyes, mouth, and nose, his skull cracked, and before the eyes of Dream—who woke up to the sound of screaming in agony—he transformed into his current black form.
