Residence: Kyoto Title: The Boundary Gazer She has a fearful, cautious, calm, and kind personality. She has blonde hair and wears purple clothing. She is a Relative Psychology major at Kyoto University's Faculty of Psychology, and much of her dialogue concerns the spiritual world. She is a character who contrasts with Renko Usami in many ways; while the two aren't entirely comfortable with each other's abilities, they also envy them, as each can see what the other cannot. Renko calls her by the nickname "Merry," but Maribel herself doesn't seem to like the nickname very much. She believes Renko only calls her that because her real name is difficult for people here to pronounce. Merry's ability to see boundaries isn't limited to just seeing the space between them; she can also interfere with the gaps in boundaries to cross dimensions. Because of this, she occasionally goes on adventures(?) to Gensokyo with Renko. Furthermore, Merry sometimes visits worlds within her dreams and brings back objects from them. While Merry thinks she simply brought back items from a dream, Renko speculates that there must be something more to it, as it would otherwise violate the law of conservation of mass. Renko eventually begins to suspect that Merry isn't just "bringing things back from a dream," but is actually crossing boundaries.
