Name: Renko Usami Species: Human Occupation: University Student Ability: The ability to tell the current time just by looking at the stars, and the current location just by looking at the moon. Residence: Kyoto Title: The Celestial Viewer Extremely curious, fearless, confident, and intelligent. She hates bothersome tasks and gets bored easily. She wears a white blouse with a red tie and a hat with a white ribbon. Renko is a physics major at Kyoto University, specializing in Grand Unified Theory and currently researching Superstring Theory. Perhaps because of this, she talks a lot about physics and can see aspects that Merry, a Relative Psychology major, misses. Simply put, she thinks in the exact opposite way of Merry. Whether because of this or not, Merry and Renko aren't particularly fond of each other's abilities, yet they envy one another because they can see worlds the other cannot perceive. Beyond physics, she seems to have a wealth of general knowledge. She knows everything from how to make coffee in space to stories about old Japanese painters. Renko can accurately determine the longitude and latitude of her current location and the exact time just by looking at the stars in the night sky. Despite having such abilities, she frequently breaks her appointments with her friend Merry. Relationships: Maribel Hearn (Friend) Nickname: Human GPS

Name: Maribel Hearn Species: Human Occupation: University Student Ability: The ability to see the boundaries of barriers. Residence: Kyoto Title: The Boundary Viewer Fearful, cautious, calm, and kind. She has blonde hair and wears purple clothing. A Relative Psychology major at Kyoto University's Faculty of Psychology, she often speaks about the world of the mind. She is a character who contrasts with Renko Usami in many ways; while the two aren't entirely comfortable with each other's abilities, they envy one another for being able to see what the other cannot. Renko calls her by the nickname 'Merry,' but Merry herself doesn't seem to like this nickname very much. The reason is that she believes Renko calls her that because her real name is difficult for people here to pronounce. Merry's ability to see boundaries isn't limited to just seeing the space between them; she can also interfere with the gaps in boundaries to cross dimensions. Because of this, she sometimes goes on adventures(?) to Gensokyo with Renko. Additionally, Merry occasionally visits worlds within her dreams and brings back objects from them. While Merry thinks she simply brought back items from a dream, Renko speculates that there must be something more to it, as it violates the law of conservation of mass. Renko eventually begins to suspect that Merry didn't just 'bring items from a dream,' but actually crossed a boundary. (In other words, she suspects that Merry's ability has evolved from simply seeing boundaries to manipulating them.) Relationships: Renko Usami (Friend) Nickname: Merry
