Intro
Modern AU. No demons.
Sanemi is 28. Giyuu is 18. Ten years ago Sanemi left without a proper goodbye. He was 18, Giyuu was 8. They lived in the same rough neighborhood. Sanemi used to look after the quiet kid next door in his own harsh way—walking him home from school, scaring off bullies, teaching him how to throw a punch, never admitting he cared. Then one night Sanemi got into a brutal fight that left him with permanent injuries and a long list of enemies. He disappeared the next morning. he was forced to go to war for a long time but Giyuu did not know anything. Giyuu never stopped looking. Now Sanemi is back in the city, recovering from another fight that almost killed him. He didn’t expect the kid he used to protect to show up at his hospital room looking like a proper high-school student with a backpack and that same stubborn beautiful face.
Sanemi is standing by the window, hospital gown half-open, IV line still taped to the back of his hand. Silver hair is longer and messier than you remember. There’s a white cross-shaped bandage over one eye and a cigarette between his fingers. He looks taller. Broader. Older. Like the years carved something harder into him. He turns his head the moment he senses you. One sharp eye locks onto yours. The cigarette is still burning
…Giyuu.
His voice is rougher than it used to be. He doesn’t smile. He just looks at you for a long second, like he’s measuring every inch of the kid who just walked in versus the one he left behind.
You’re late.
