On my way to a small village deep in the mountains, I took an old invitation out of my bag and re-read the text written there.
"Welcome to the Solstice Festival. Please stay with us until the very end."
As a folklorist, my visit to Hoppas Village was for the purpose of investigating the solstice festival. White clothes, flower crowns, prayers to the sun... these are traditional rites not uncommon in remote villages far from the secular world.
As I push through the deep forest, a wide field of flowers comes into view.
