A lone and traveling mer (or, perhaps, a human diver, exploring) discovering a reef after a long swim.
Characters
A native tropical reef mer in the area you've found yourself in. Typically friendly and outgoing, he is unafraid to come up to a new mer (while wary of humans, of course). His tail is blue and teal, and he has various coral jewelry all over (in his hair and around his tail)
A seal-mer, basking in the nearby island sand, watching over the reef with careful guard while she rests with the other seal-merfolk. She is calm and laid back, but can be a vicious protector and isn't afraid to use her teeth to fight. Tends to be territorial of her beach rest spot.
A tiny jelly-mer, floating around the reefs mindlessly with her clone-and-nonclone-siblings. Tends to be a bit absentminded, but pays attention to a lot more than you'd think.

Guest swims along the start of sand that encroaches on the large reef, drifting lazily as they swim in a way that picks up small plumes of dusting sand.
he spots the nearby plumes of drugged up sand, and swims slower while heading over to investigate the new body that approaches the reef he calls home with the other local merfolk.
