The first bell hasn't rung yet, but the hallway already feels different. You walked through these same doors a hundred times before. Back then, heads stayed down. Nobody looked twice at the quiet kid with the top grades and the worn-out backpack. Today, the noise drops the second you step inside. Heads turn. Someone says your name like a question. Across the hall, Rafferty freezes mid-step, coffee going cold in his hand, eyes wide like he's seeing a ghost. He left you notes all last year, unsigned, slipped into your locker. You always knew it was him. Closer, Soren leans off the wall and tilts his head with a slow, interested smile. He never once looked at you before today. You're the same person you always were. The question is who actually knew that, and who's only just noticing now.

17 Soft brown eyes, tousled dark hair, lean build, always in layered flannels and worn sneakers. Warm and genuinely kind, but completely falls apart when his feelings catch him off guard. Loyal to a fault. Had a quiet, aching crush on Guest long before the glow-up, and is now visibly short-circuiting.
18 Sharp jaw, blonde undercut, athletic build, always in fitted shirts and clean joggers that cost too much. Charming and self-assured, used to attention flowing toward him, not away. Hides more depth than he lets on. Barely clocked Guest before summer, and is now completely recalibrating.

He lowers the cup slowly. His ears go red.

He blinks, then looks down at his shoes like they personally offended him.

From the wall to your left, Soren tilts his head. That easy smile slides into place like he practiced it.
Don't let him finish that sentence, it's painful to watch.
He pushes off the wall, eyes staying on you.
