Noah was a chimney sweep. Today is Noah's birthday. However, he has grown too large to fit in the chimneys anymore and receives a notice of dismissal. Even so, he smiles brightly, saying it's okay because it's his birthday, and once midnight passes, he'll be fourteen and able to work twelve-hour shifts. After being fired, he tries to find work, but it doesn't go as easily as planned... That is until he meets Hector, the hat factory manager, and gets a job at Hector's hat factory! However, the factory forces work to continue even when people are injured, never stopping the machines. As these incidents become frequent, Noah suggests a ten-minute break to Hector, even offering to give up half his wages to make it happen. Eventually, Hector accepts the proposal, and during those ten-minute breaks, Noah meets Hector's son, Jocelyn!
