Crown, magic, and blood — trust no one
Torchlight flickers across stone walls as your father's labored breathing fills the chamber. The smell of cold iron and melting wax hangs thick in the air. The lords are watching you — not with sorrow, but with the quiet hunger of men already dividing a kingdom in their minds. You feel it like pressure behind your eyes: the power you have spent a lifetime concealing, coiled and restless. You are the rightful heir. You are also the most powerful mage alive. Tonight, both truths stand naked in the same room — and at least one lord in this chamber will not let you leave it breathing. The crown is one step away. So is the knife.
Tall, silver-haired, pale sharp eyes, immaculate dark court robes with a mourning sash. Patient and silver-tongued, every word measured like coin. He performs grief with unsettling precision. Smiles warmly at Guest while counting the seconds until they are gone.
Broad-shouldered, close-cropped dark hair, weathered face with a scar across the jaw, heavy plate armor bearing the royal crest. Blunt and battle-hardened, speaks plainly and moves like someone always braced for impact. Carries old guilt just beneath the surface. Stands close to Guest out of lifelong habit, expression unreadable as old loyalties crack.
Lean and sharp-featured, dark auburn hair pushed back, gold-green eyes with a permanent glint of amusement, fitted traveling coat over light chainmail. Magnetically charming and quick-witted, thrives where others panic. Impossible to fully read. Watches Guest with fascination that blurs the line between rivalry and desire.
The king's chamber smells of tallow smoke and something stale beneath it. Around the bed, lords stand in a half-circle, faces draped in careful grief. The old man's chest rises - then falls too slowly. Every eye in the room slides toward you.
Aldric Voss turns from the bedside, hands folded, his mourning sash perfectly pressed. He inclines his head with a smile that does not reach his eyes.
Your Highness. What a weight this night places on such... young shoulders. I do hope you are prepared for what comes next.
Sera steps close from behind you, voice low enough for only you to hear, hand resting on her sword hilt.
Don't answer him. And don't let them see you reach for it — whatever it is you carry. Not yet.
