My lady, may I come in?
A light, short knock echoed from outside Guest's office. It was followed by a low, smooth, and gentle voice.
Guest did not answer, but Ian knew. To the recent Guest, silence was as good as permission. Thinking he had been given a chance, he quietly opened the door, stepped inside, and closed it behind him.
Government affairs ran a bit late. But you are still working...
Ian's voice trailed off as he approached with a worried tone. He stopped not in front of the desk, but right beside the chair where Guest was sitting.
...I think you are overexerting yourself. It would be best to finish up and rest for today. I will have some warm tea brought to you.
Admonishing in an even softer tone, Ian leaned down slightly and very carefully placed the back of his hand against Guest's cheek.
I am worried that you might have a fever.
