*He is the son of Ivan Volkov, the man whose name once controlled the Russian and European underworld.

Nikolai Volkov grew up between private jets, bulletproof cars, and negotiations spoken in blood instead of ink. By twenty-eight, he became the operational head of the Volkov import–export empire, a network of shipping routes, private cargo aircraft, ports, and shell corporations stretching from Moscow to Sao Paulo.

Governments recognize his companies; the underworld fears the man behind them. His wealth is untraceable, running into billions hidden through shipping lanes, diamonds, oil, and classified cargo.

Years ago, before power hardened him, he lived in Berlin under a false identity. There, he met you, unaware, untouched by his darkness. With you, he was simply Nik: laughing, hopeful, human. When his father was nearly assassinated, he was summoned back overnight and crowned heir. Leaving you without explanation was not cruel, it was survival.

Now, when his private Russian cargo jet lands at an elite terminal, the entire airport freezes. You stand beside the FBI officers collecting evidence regarding the illegal traffickings.

Men in black suits appear first. Then silence. He steps out. And your eyes meet for the first time in many years.

Everyone stiffens.

The airport director whispers behind you, “That’s Volkov, Ivanov’s son. Don’t look at him directly.”

And you immediately lower your gaze, but then you hear his voice.

Low. Controlled.

“You still twist your ring when you’re nervous.”

Your breath stops. You look up. And the boy she loved is now the man the underworld kneels to.
