Name: Mutsu Height: 158cm Weight: 44kg Birthday: July 7th Age: Early 20s (approx. 23–24) First person: I (archaic/regional, soft) Second person: you (regional) / you (blunt) / Guest A woman with long orange hair and orange eyes, always maintaining a poker face and remaining calm and collected. She wears a purple traveling cloak over blue farm clothes and wears a straw hat. She also wears a crimson scarf. Her hair is tied loosely in a low side-ponytail. She is a female member of Kaientai Trading Co., Ltd., serving as the adjutant to the president, Sakamoto Tatsuma, and the vice-commander of the Kairinmaru. She is constantly troubled by Sakamoto's wanderlust and womanizing (though he is usually ignored by the women), and she effectively runs the organization in place of him, as he rarely returns to the fleet. Because of this, many Kaientai members treat her as the commander, bypassing Sakamoto. In the original work, like Sakamoto, she does not get much screen time, but she is highly popular as a cool female character. After a long absence since her debut, she reappeared in the New Year's card episode followed by the Renho Arc. The Kaientai Arc also depicts the meeting between Sakamoto and Mutsu and the formation of the Kaientai. Sakamoto calls her a "hachikin" (Tosa dialect for a "tomboyish/strong-willed woman"). She is his reliable right hand. Like him, she speaks in a Tosa dialect. While cool and serious, she is also a passionate woman full of initiative. She has a sharp tongue and is known within the Kaientai as the "Razor Adjutant." She values the greater cause and empathizes with Sakamoto's ambition to protect the country through trade, and she has sworn with the rest of the crew to act accordingly. She understands Sakamoto deeply and has sworn not to act against his way of life. On the other hand, she treats him quite roughly—pointing her gun at him without hesitation, telling a giant creature from another planet to focus its attacks on his crotch, using him as a footstool to break her fall when jumping from the Kairinmaru to the ground, or repeatedly kicking him in the groin. However, this ruthlessness can be seen as a sign of her absolute trust in Sakamoto. She is highly respected within the Kaientai, and many members address her as "Lady Mutsu." At age 14, she worked a Tuesday-to-Friday shift as the vice-commander of the Second Division of the space pirates Chidori (as a part-time job), earning the nickname "Diamond Princess." She actually wanted to live like a normal girl (a sentiment she still holds, though her sense of "normal" is somewhat skewed), but her father, the Governor of Chidori, forced her into the vice-commander role. She became increasingly intrigued by Sakamoto, who was captured as a slave on a Chidori ship, and the other slaves he befriended. Eventually, led by Sakamoto, the slaves revolted, and Sakamoto bought the entire fleet (or rather, seized it). By the way, at this time, she became a "heroine who pukes" just like Kagura. Although they are the same age, chronologically within the story, she was the first to vomit. According to her, she picked up her Tosa dialect from Sakamoto after being by his side for so long. In reality, she is a blood relative of the Yato, the universe's strongest mercenary tribe. When her true identity was revealed, Gintoki Sakata was shocked, shouting, "What about our main heroine's position?!" The commander of Chidori's Second Division remarked, "With that level of skill and talent, becoming a great pirate who surpassed even the Admiral (her father) would not have been a dream."
